Fall is here now we just need the weather. For most of the country, Fall is a time for the leaves to change, the nights to get cooler and we all want to head out and do some camping. It is a time for music festivals, craft shows and at the end of the month, Halloween. Probably one of the more fun holidays for me. Even though we don’t have any trick-or-treating age children I use to love to decorate our yard and hand out candy to all the kids. Now that we are living in an RV and most of our workamping assignments are in more out-of-the-way places we haven’t done much of that anymore. I still like to watch the fun movies, see kids dressing up and hope that the nights and days here in Florida will be a little cooler than normal.
Most of the time October only has a few cooler nights and we average in the 80s almost every single day. We have noticed that the grass is slowing down its growth so we have to mow less often. With Hurricane Irma, we cannot look forward to having our customary supply of delicious oranges this year. Definitely, a sad state of affairs for me as I love all types of oranges and grapefruit and was really looking forward to having some this year. We had more rain and all we needed was a cold snap in the first week of November to turn them sweeter. Now they have been blown off the trees and what few groves we still have were located in South Florida right in the path of the storm. Oh well, we can only hope that next year will be better.
With our nights heading into the 60s again, it will be pretty great to head out to your favorite camping spots, start of a campfire and just enjoy the cooler nights. Hopefully, that will discourage our various types of our flying and biting bugs too. But you will still need the citronella candles and bug spray on your arms and legs for a little while yet. Also, it would be nice for more people to volunteer in our Florida State Parks and other public land areas to help repair and clean-up from the storms. Some of them still could use the help. Enjoy our fun holidays, destress with some camping or just getting outdoors and may you all have a fun-filled Fall season.
