August Bad Month for Writing

FallFlowersAtTonys (1)August is a very bad month to try and maintain a writing schedule. It is so hot and humid it is very hard to get motivated. Added to that a lot of people are taking their vacations and/or getting ready to send their kids off to school. Of course, this year the weather has been a major factor here in Florida as well as elsewhere in the U.S. with no rain in some areas, typhoons in the Pacific, and torrential rains is other parts. So if you are having a bit of trouble keeping to your normal writing schedule then why not just give it a rest for a few weeks.

Write Books Reviews

eBookReaderDeviceWhen thinking about your own marketing for your published books you might want to consider writing reviews on some of your favorite author’s pages on Amazon, GoodReads, Library Thing, or whichever online bookstore you might use to purchase your favorite reading material. Each are free to join and fairly easy to use. Amazon will send you an email to remind you to write a review a few days after your purchase. GoodReads allows you to import your Amazon book purchases directly into your book section. Of course, you can erase whichever ones you don’t want to list. We haven’t been using the Library Thing very much so we are still figuring it out. We recommend that you join a couple of them. Not only do you want to include the books you have published but some of your favorite authors as well. Also, every time you finish a reading a book you might want to take a few minutes, sign onto your accounts and write a little review so you won’t forget the details.

Finding Time to Write

BigShoals09082014 (10)Finding time to write may be one of the hardest things new writers may encounter. There are so many things in our lives that may interfere when we try to write from having to go to our regular jobs to family and friends needing our attention. Making time or scheduling regular writing times will help you get your writing done. In the long run it may even help your creative juices to flow. Of course, telling your friends and family that you will be unavailable during these times may help you keep to the schedule and hopefully they will even help your by respecting your time limits. But don’t forget about getting some sleep and eating in there somewhere.

Marketing Your Book at Local Author Expos

NE Fla Local Author
NE Fla Local Author
If you have done it yet you might want to seriously consider filling out an application for the upcoming Local Author Expo being held at the Riverside Arts Market on April 18th. They are inviting all the local authors to “Meet the Public” discuss your books, your writing and even possibly sell a couple of copies. Of course, you will need to let your fans, family and friends know you will be attending the event so that they can come get their books autographed! The cost is only $25 per vending booth area, which is about a 10ftx10ft space that you will set up your table(s), chair(s), your books, marketing materials such as posters, bookmarks, buttons, etc. You might even want to consider setting up a canopy tent to keep the sun off and maybe even the rain. This is a “rain or shine” place. If you haven’t been to RAM in the past you might even want to visit this coming Saturday.

Check out their website: http://riversideartsmarket.com/upcoming-events/

Whats Happening This Week

LibraryOfBooks2What’s Happening This Week? We have added our very own Acrobat Reader PDF version of our recently published eBook called the Insider’s Guide to Campground Hosting in Florida Parks. Since we sell eBooks we thought we would offer a slightly different version here than we have published on Amazon Kindle and Smashwords. These two self-publishing companies are great for fiction writers but not so much for non-fiction writers. Non-Fiction books should have an index of terms and appendix pages available for their readers. This is as close to a paperback or hardback copy of our book as you can get. Granted, you are able to search for keywords within the eBook versions of our book on both sites but for those of us who like to look through indexes in books to find stuff and really appreciated accompanying material in our non-fiction books then Acrobat Reader PDFs are the way to go.
