Three Free Ways to Market Your Books

Share this post on:

There are quite a few things you can do to market your own books to your current and future readers. Some will cost money such as creating ads on Facebook, Amazon, etc. but there are at least three different things you can do today that will not cost you a dime. And, keeps on giving throughout the year as well for each of your books.

One of the simplest things would be to complete your profiles on Amazon, Goodreads, Barnes and Noble, etc. Please include a picture of yourself as well as a couple of paragraphs telling your readers about yourself, your writing process, where you get your story ideas and perhaps a couple of lines about your hobbies and other things you might do besides writing. There is nothing more frustrating as a reader than to click on the profile page of your favorite writer to get more information and there is nothing or very little there. It doesn’t hurt to give your readers a short bio and picture. Even publishing houses require that you give them a publicity photo and brief history to help them in their publicity efforts.

Once you have completed these profile pages the second thing you will want to do is link all of your published books to these pages so that people can click on them to buy, download and read. And please do it every single time you publish a new story. I have clicked on my favorite authors a number of times and not all of their books are linked to the profile. If you have any problems with getting them linked up you just need to email the company and they will gladly help you. Generally, their websites are not set up to automatically link to your profile page so you will need to do it yourself whether you self-publish or have a publisher.

The third thing you might want to do is create a series of postings to your social media pages and author/book websites. There is no reason why you cannot spend a day and create a couple of paragraphs, a series of tweets, a folder full of pictures that pertain to you and your stories with funny sayings, notes about what you are doing, and a link to each of your books. Facebook will allow you to schedule posts to a specific day to almost an unlimited amount. There are some free services that you can use to schedule posts of some of your social media accounts such as Hootesuite. It allows you to add 3 social media accounts and create up to 30 posts ahead of time for FREE.
