National Day Observance

There are over 1000 different “National Days” throughout the year and today is no exception. Besides being the day that the Martin Luther King Day falls on this year you have National Hat Day, National Strawbery Ice Cream Day (probably not going to observe that one this year) and it is Robert E. Lee’s Birthday. In my writing, I often look at various trivia websites to get inspiration for another post. For this one I used https://nationaldaycalendar.com/. It is a fun website to scroll through the various days of the year to find something interesting the write about.

Now I like hats. I don’t often wear them except when I am working in one of our Florida State Parks or maybe when it is too cold to be running around a Gator or golf cart doing our duties as volunteer workampers. This year one of our hand crocheted hats got a pretty good workout and will continue to until it warms up again. Scooting along the trails and in the park opening the gate in the morning in a vehicle with no windshield can chill you right down to the bone as well as make your ears hurt. My youngest daughter loves to wear hats. She has a whole collection of various different ones but she likes those fedora style hats.

Robert E. Lee and Martin Luther King were two men who really changed our country. Whether it’s for the good or bad they were prominent in their time and both deserved to be remembered. I just don’t understand all the uproar and wanting to tear down every single Confederate monument in the South. Our history is our history and for good or bad it happened, it changed us and, I hope, we learned from it. Hiding it or destroying it will not change it.

That’s my rant for today, until next time.
