Lets Go British Television

Let’s Go British Television! I haven’t written much about female detective stories on television as I like to concentrate on regular book writers and stories. However, those who write for female police shows deserve to be recognized and enjoyed too. For the last 2 years, I have been watching a lot of Netflix as our cable service is restricted to just the local channels stations in our area. Let’s face it the current collection of available TV shows on the major networks are pretty dull for a mystery lover like myself. I mean, there are just so many times you can watch re-runs of CSI and most of the police shows only feature mostly male figures with just 1 or 2 token female characters.

Anyway, I decided to try the TV shows in other countries, mainly Great Brittain and Australia. There are a couple of shows that I hope will continue and added to such as Happy Valley and Scott & Bailey. Both TV series feature strong women roles with great stories, created and written by Sally Wainwright. If you haven’t watched them then try out a FREE Netflix subscription online and look them up. Happy Valley is about a female police Sargeant in a small British town. The show features excellent characters and a riveting plot that keeps you coming back for more. The British stories have longer run episodes and less in number per season and on Netflix, they are commercial free. Which is always a plus in my book. The other series is Scott & Bailey. Sort of a British version of Cagney and Lacey. Not to take anything away from either show or the very good actresses but they have a similar set-up in characters but in an urban British Police station. This show is also extremely well-written and feature strong female characters who are just trying to get through their days but with a british accent. There are a couple of others but I can’t remember them right now. So, check it out for yourself.

Sally A Wainwright (born 1963) is an English television writer, producer, and director from Yorkshire. She doesn’t have a website but is on Twitter https://twitter.com/spiceyw?lang=en. Most of the information about her is on WIKI and in other articles on the web. She seems to produce very believable characters and strong storylines in whatever show she is currently involved with. I enjoy her writing and hope she continues for years to come.

Sorry this story has been post-dated. I am still trying to catch up on all my blogs.
