Finding time to write may be one of the hardest things new writers may encounter. There are so many things in our lives that may interfere when we try to write from having to go to our regular jobs to family and friends needing our attention. Making time or scheduling regular writing times will help you get your writing done. In the long run it may even help your creative juices to flow. Of course, telling your friends and family that you will be unavailable during these times may help you keep to the schedule and hopefully they will even help your by respecting your time limits. But don’t forget about getting some sleep and eating in there somewhere. Continue reading “Finding Time to Write”
The Riverside Arts Market’s Local Author Expo is now complete and here are some of the results. We arrived by 8:00 for set-up like we planned after spending the night with a friend who also agreed to help us get set up in the morning because my oldest daughter injured her foot at work and was unable to do much setting up this time around. She was able to come sit with us during the event which is always nice. I suppose since we were new comers to this event we were placed on the back row right next to Riverside Avenue which was pretty noisy with all the traffic behind us and rolling along above us “under the bridge”. It was mostly cloudy all day with a few breezes and stray sunshine every now and then. In the morning the sun was in your eyes when it was out but towards noon it was a lot better. The rain even held out until after the event was over and we had packed up to leave.
I didn’t know at the time but our event was competing with the “Springing the the Blues” Festival this weekend at Jacksonville Beach. So, there were not as many food vendors or even craft vendors that normally would be there and some of the authors that thought they might come didn’t show up either. So, we ended up having about 24 local authors, including me, three Sci-fi/Fantasy writers, three or four children’s authors, a couple of inspirational/motivational writers, two historical authors, a few fiction writers and a mystery author. Of course, with the Blues Festival going on, a Regional Pet Adoption Event at the fairgrounds and some kind of sporting event happening on Saturday the competition was fierce for people’s attention. If you have done it yet you might want to seriously consider filling out an application for the upcoming Local Author Expo being held at the Riverside Arts Market on April 18th. They are inviting all the local authors to “Meet the Public” discuss your books, your writing and even possibly sell a couple of copies. Of course, you will need to let your fans, family and friends know you will be attending the event so that they can come get their books autographed! The cost is only $25 per vending booth area, which is about a 10ftx10ft space that you will set up your table(s), chair(s), your books, marketing materials such as posters, bookmarks, buttons, etc. You might even want to consider setting up a canopy tent to keep the sun off and maybe even the rain. This is a “rain or shine” place. If you haven’t been to RAM in the past you might even want to visit this coming Saturday.
New eBook Store Plug-in. Yes, we are once again trying to a new eCommerce plug-in for our eBook store page. We have not been satisfied with any of the FREE eCommerce plug-ins being offered on WordPress.org and are not willing to pay for one until we actually find one that will work with our own WordPress theme and, of course, we begin to make some book sales. We have moved most of our handcrafted (physical items) that we have for sale to our Square-Up Marketplace account. They handle all the financial transactions and we just ship the items. Since, I have always wanted to own and operate my own bookstore I am determined to keep at it until I find one that works for me. We have an inventory of over 200 eBooks that we have the resell rights to and will be adding them a little at a time. We have some more that we haven’t been able to assess yet and will work on those once we have the others added. Almost every single one of those will only be $1.00 and are available for immediate download with all payments being processed through PAYPAL. Again, we will not have access to your financial information with them either. Continue reading “New eBook Store Plugin”
Holidays and Books go together like eggs and bacon. We all love to read books, others are busy writing books and this time of year we all like to give and get books for presents. You may have your favorite bookstore that you love to visit and browse through to see all the new offerings, the lovely book covers, as well as the book paraphernalia and other things being offered. For some of us we have to content ourselves with browsing online from Amazon, Barnes and Noble and even the iTunes iBookstore to sate our cravings. Of course, visiting your local library is always nice and should be encouraged every single week. But there is just something special about picking out a brand new book for ourselves or our loved ones. Holding the book in our hands, looking through the pages and pictures is a sensory delight to most readers and writers. Continue reading “Holidays and Books”
