Women Versus Men Writers

Women versus Men Writers. Now, this is just off the top of my head and because I didn’t really have anything else to write about right now. Which do you prefer and Why? Women authors writing about male detectives or men authors writing about female detectives? Or are you a traditionalist and prefer women writing about women detectives and men writing about men detective? Think about what you read and your favorite authors. Do their stories satisfy all your reading requirements?

Now, I like the writings of J.A. Jance. She writes about both a male private investigator in her J.P. Beaumont series and a female sheriff in her Joanna Brady series. Personally, I prefer the Joanna Brady series over the J.P. Beaumont series because it is written about a woman by a woman. I have read a couple of the J.P. Beaumont series and they are really pretty good but I probably wouldn’t read the series over and over again like I do with the Joanna Brady one.

23rd Midnight by James Patterson

James Patterson is another great author and he writes about a group of women investigating crimes called the Women’s Murder Club series with a San Francisco Police Lieutenant, a county coroner, a prosecuting attorney and a newspaper reporter. The series is really good and the characters are well written but he cannot help but put a little masculine touch to the characters. For the second and third books in the series, he lists Andrew Gross as his co-author but beginning with book four he credits Maxine Paetro as the co-author. Beginning with the 4th book you do notice subtle changes in the characters. I think it is for the better. I don’t know what their writing dynamic is but it is working and they are up to book 24 in the series will be coming out in May 2024.

I really liked the TV Series that was made about the books but it was canceled after the first year and it has yet to be released on DVD. Bummer. I also read and enjoy his Alex Cross series. It is an extremely suspenseful and well-written series.

I am sure there are lots of examples that you could come to yourself and we hope to hear from you.
