Meeting Writers in Odd Places
It is quite fascinating to realize there are quite a number of published writers who live and work in the North Florida area. I have met several over the last couple of months while just sitting in my crafts shop in Chiefland, Florida on the weekends. Of course, I have copies of my books on my counter so that any customer or those “just looking” will see the covers and I hope they make a comment. Mostly I get “Do you sell any other books?” but sometimes they will ask if I am the author. Yes, indeed I am and we start talking about books and writing but every now and then they will tell me they are published as well.
It is so cool when you meet another writer and are able to discuss our books, publishing, and what have you. Recently, I had a young lady come into the shop. She and her companion found what they were looking for right away and as she was paying for her purchase she noticed my book at the checkout and was kind enough to purchase a copy just because she is a published writer as well. Excellent! She is located in Dixie Country and I told her about our Free North Florida Writers Blog, as well as the upcoming Writers Alliance of Gainesville’s Sunshine State Book Festive in January 2021.
I only asked for her first name to sign her new book but she did take one of my business cards to get in touch later. Hey, she even has a YouTube channel! Well, that is terrific and I can’t wait until she contacts me again. I mean how many authors do you know who write Fantasy/Sci-Fi/Mystery and every now and then Romance?

There is a lesson here folks.
Whenever you happen to run into another writer try to have your business card handy and ask for theirs. It is common courtesy and probably the only way we self-published writers are going to get our careers up and running again. This dang pandemic has us all in a holding pattern. So anyone in the Dixie County, Levy County, or Gilchrist county Florida areas who have published books please drop on by the Chiefland Farmers Flea Market any weekend in January, and let’s talk about self-publishing, marketing your books, and getting a free featured article on my North Florida Writers Tour blog. You can even use our CONTACT US page and drop us a line.
