Love AC Hate Hurricanes

I love air conditioning in the dog days of summer but now the dreaded hurricane season is rapidly escalating. In Florida, September is a very active month for hurricanes to form and hit out area. We lived through Hurricane Matthew last year but only got a glancing blow in the North Florida area. We really are overdue for a direct hit soon. With each year people get more complacent about getting and keeping prepared for when or if one will strike our area. That is never good. And with us living out of an RV full-time we can’t really store any supplies.

So, here we sit in our sweltering RV with no shade above our campsite praying every day that our little air conditioner doesn’t crap out on us. Should we have to evacuate we can only go over to my brother’s trailer a few miles west of us. While we were volunteering in the Florida State Parks we were told we had to move out of the park whenever a named tropical storm threatened to blow through. Of course, last year we were at Osceola National Forest for the beginning of the season and our engine wouldn’t crank. Luckily, the worst of the weather went around us. And when Matthew came through we stayed in the RV at the county park because my brother had taken our engine apart. Again, we only got some wind and rain. No telling what is going to happen this year.

I will have to check out our backup generator just in case we lose power during our regularly scheduled thunderstorms. We haven’t had to use it but one time since we have been living in our RV full-time. I just hope that it will crank for us when we need it the most. Of course, if I did have the money I would buy those rolled up solar panels that you can use unroll and stick on your roof. I would much rather have those than a gas generator. Of course, we have about 30 gallons of gas that has been sitting in our tanks for over a year now. It probably has water in it too, ugg!
