Florida’s Irma Damage

Florida is still trying to recover from Hurricane Irma when it blew through last week. We have some downed trees along the trails and lost electricity for 4 days. We don’t qualify for FEMA assistance to replace the food we had to throw away as their requirements were 5 days without power. None of our family had much damage either so we are really grateful for that. Of course, our gas generator wouldn’t start when we needed it and it would have been nice to have those roll-up solar panels in place.

We are also so thankful for all the other states who have sent personnel and supplies to those who really need them. It is very nice to know that in a time of crisis there are people out there who are willing to help just because they can. We still have to be on the look-out for those crooks who would take advantage of the situations but all in all, we have lots of regular people to help where and when they can. Now if we can just get the government to behave as if they really care and cut back on the paperwork and just take care of what needs to be done.

We are enjoying the downtime as the park is closed due to all the water everywhere. We cleaned up the park area and have to wait a while before we can drive along the trails. Now would be a really great time for someone to figure out how to gather up the flood waters here and ship it out west for put out some of the fires in the western states. Now wouldn’t that be a great way to spend some government dollars!
