Beta Readers and Questions To Ask

We all would probably like some help with our book as we are writing it. Involving beta readers can be a help during the writing process. But knowing what questions to ask is also very important. There are literally thousands of articles and videos online telling you which questions to ask, what you can do about the different problem areas that might come up and on, and on. Some of them may apply to your current ‘work-in-progress’ or WIP and some will not. Even as a newbie author who may or may not have published yet you are the one who chooses what to pay attention to and what to ignore.

The first article I saw on the Google search was written by Arielle Phoenix on the SelfPublishedWhiz.com website. I like the round number of ’20 Questions’. Reminds me of the kid’s game. But I digress. Read through the article yourself and see if what she is suggesting can help you get started. Sample Questions for Beta Readers

The main take-away that I would like you to consider is that we all need help getting our WIP moving along. After the first draft is done you should line yourself up some Beta Readers. Create your own questionnaire and see what they may have to say that will improve your work. You can ask for Beta Readers through your social media platforms, your writer’s group pages and even on your own website. There are lots of resources out there for you to use. Most Beta Readers will do it just for the chance to read a story before anyone else. Some, however, would appreciate compensation for their time and expertise. All should sign a non-disclosure agreement before beginning. SampleNonDisclosureBetaReaderForm_Fillable
