Calling all North Florida Writers! You will have another opportunity to “Meet the Public” and market your writing. The Antiques, Arts & Collectibles Festival will include a Local Author Expo and is inviting all writers in our region to come, spend the day, maybe due a reading, sign some books and maybe gain some readers in the process. This event will be held on July 18, 2015 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm at Stephen Foster Folk Culture Center State Park in White Springs, Florida. They are combining several different events this year to make one big show which should draw in a fairly nice crowd.
The authors will be located in the air conditioned Nelly Bly Kitchen and will be provided with tables and chairs. A homemade ice cream vendor will be right outside. Both the nice cool building and the ice cream vendor should entice lots of visitors. The cost will be $20 per author or 15% of sales. Continue reading “Local Author Expo at SFFCCSP”
The Riverside Arts Market’s Local Author Expo is now complete and here are some of the results. We arrived by 8:00 for set-up like we planned after spending the night with a friend who also agreed to help us get set up in the morning because my oldest daughter injured her foot at work and was unable to do much setting up this time around. She was able to come sit with us during the event which is always nice. I suppose since we were new comers to this event we were placed on the back row right next to Riverside Avenue which was pretty noisy with all the traffic behind us and rolling along above us “under the bridge”. It was mostly cloudy all day with a few breezes and stray sunshine every now and then. In the morning the sun was in your eyes when it was out but towards noon it was a lot better. The rain even held out until after the event was over and we had packed up to leave.
I didn’t know at the time but our event was competing with the “Springing the the Blues” Festival this weekend at Jacksonville Beach. So, there were not as many food vendors or even craft vendors that normally would be there and some of the authors that thought they might come didn’t show up either. So, we ended up having about 24 local authors, including me, three Sci-fi/Fantasy writers, three or four children’s authors, a couple of inspirational/motivational writers, two historical authors, a few fiction writers and a mystery author. Of course, with the Blues Festival going on, a Regional Pet Adoption Event at the fairgrounds and some kind of sporting event happening on Saturday the competition was fierce for people’s attention. If you have done it yet you might want to seriously consider filling out an application for the upcoming Local Author Expo being held at the Riverside Arts Market on April 18th. They are inviting all the local authors to “Meet the Public” discuss your books, your writing and even possibly sell a couple of copies. Of course, you will need to let your fans, family and friends know you will be attending the event so that they can come get their books autographed! The cost is only $25 per vending booth area, which is about a 10ftx10ft space that you will set up your table(s), chair(s), your books, marketing materials such as posters, bookmarks, buttons, etc. You might even want to consider setting up a canopy tent to keep the sun off and maybe even the rain. This is a “rain or shine” place. If you haven’t been to RAM in the past you might even want to visit this coming Saturday.
Holidays and Books go together like eggs and bacon. We all love to read books, others are busy writing books and this time of year we all like to give and get books for presents. You may have your favorite bookstore that you love to visit and browse through to see all the new offerings, the lovely book covers, as well as the book paraphernalia and other things being offered. For some of us we have to content ourselves with browsing online from Amazon, Barnes and Noble and even the iTunes iBookstore to sate our cravings. Of course, visiting your local library is always nice and should be encouraged every single week. But there is just something special about picking out a brand new book for ourselves or our loved ones. Holding the book in our hands, looking through the pages and pictures is a sensory delight to most readers and writers. Continue reading “Holidays and Books”
Our Book has been finalized and available in paperback format on CreateSpace. It offers “Print-on-Demand” services for self-publishing authors. They have great informational help sections to create your book, online previewers to see what your book will look like before it is available for printing and you get great author prices to buy a copy or ten of your book for you, your family and possibly sell your book yourself at festivals, shows, etc. You can do as much as you want in the process of getting your book ready for publishing or pay CreateSpace to do almost every single step for you. They have a wonderful free formatting guide you can download and we suggest that you read through it first before you go through your final draft. We highly recommend you buy a copy or two of the paperback proof of your book and have a couple of friends read through it before you submit the book for finalizing. They will give you a FREE ISBN number which is also great. They will not submit the book to the Library of Congress you will need to do that yourself. Continue reading “Self Publish With CreateSpace”
